I just received a fund-raising plea in the mail from a slimy politician. You know the one. Mr. Punchable.
Normally, I don’t pay attention to these pleas for money. I give because I want to and I do it how I want to. Online.
Because Mr. Punchable sent this plea, I decided to take a closer look and this is what I saw:
What struck me, aside from the absurd conservative rhetoric, was the campaign matching. From where did the money come? Right, a super PAC. This is how shady money can make it into a candidate’s war chest; make it look like it came from a willing donor. This is how corporations and billionaires can give more. They “give” it to a donor to give it to a campaign. Donors become mules.
This is corruption. Period. Thanks SCOUTUS for Citizens United v. FEC.
